Melville House, The Seat of Mrs Milbank Leslie Melville

An original very early issue of Country Life Magazine dated December 30th 1911 featuring a main article on Melville House in Fife, Scotland, the seat of Mrs. Milbank Leslie Melville. Seven page write up with black and white illustrations of the property and gardens. This issue is in very good condition with a lovely portrait frontispiece of The Duchess of Bedford.

Melville House was built in 1697 by the arcitect James Smith for George Melville. The house was refurbished in the early 2000s and sold, after the purchaser failed to sell the property the house was repossessed by a South African Bank who had lent the money, this making it the most expensive property in Britain ever reclaimed by a bank with a value of £4.5 million.
