Miniature Views by John Hassell (1767-1827)

Over the last month I have been cataloging a rare collection of miniature antique prints drawn by the artist John Hassell (1767-1827). These scarce aquatint prints measure only 9x6cm but contain intricate beautiful original watercolour. John Hassell was an English artist who lived in London and his work mainly consisted of small topographical views of country houses, churches and towns, his watercolours have often been described as 'picturesque and romantic' and there is no doubt that these views are exactly that.

Antique Aquatint Print of Claremont by John HassellHassell seemed to have a deep connection with the county of Surrey and over his life time he produced more than 700 views of towns, churches and domestic architecture in and around that area. He produced several books which he illustrated with views of Noblemen and Gentlemen's Seats between 1804 and 1820 (including two views of Claremont House in Surrey) one of which is show here.
